We have noted the unwarranted, egocentric noises emanating from embattled the foul-mouthed Edith Zewelani Nawakwi concerning the UPND’s stance regarding Zambia’s Christian nation status after we assume public office in less than 30 days.
Its is regrettable that Ms Nawakwi, in her usual combative style, has once again taken to a path of attacking President Hichilema on a matter that is clearly set out and defined in the Zambian Constitution. Ms Nawakwi’s reckless utterances against UPND is unfounded and based on a faulty assumption.
Theoretically speaking, we expected Ms Nawakwi to have desisted from disparaging Mr Hichilema and taking every opportunity to attack Zambia’s incoming 7th Republican President.
What Ms Nawakwi should know is that our stance on this important matter is clearly outlined in our 2021-2026 Summary Manifesto document. We have made it clear that we will not temper with the provision of Zambia as a Christian nation. UPND shall maintain Zambia as a Christian nation while upholding religious freedom and tolerance of others.
Besides, as a law abiding group of Democrats, the UPND’s pledge to uphold the Republican Constitution means we are ready respect and uphold the provision therein of Zambia being a Christian nation.
Further to this, our core beliefs include; unity in diversity, equality before the law, respect for freedoms and rights of citizens, transparency, accountability, integrity and social justice.
As UPND we want to go beyond the declaration of Christian nation. We want to live it by practicing true religion as the Bible teachings, such as looking after widows and orphans. Looking after widows and orphans has been President Hakainde HICHILEMA’s life for many years. On average, President Hakainde HICHILEMA looks after 25 orphans every year, and has built hospitals and clinics.
President Hichilema’s unwavering fear and belief in God is unrivalled, cannot be overemphasized as it is there for all to see.
In conclusion President Hakainde HICHILEMA and the UPND desire to be known for the fruit that they bring to the table, not mere talk, hypocrisy and cheap rhetoric.
