The UPND Women have given embattled Forum for Democracy and Development-FDD-leader, Edith Nawakwi a 24-hours ultimatum to apologise to President Hakainde Hichilema for her fresh defamatory remarks against him, failure to which they will take action against her.
And UPND Lusaka Province Women’s Wing Chairperson, Mrs Rose Zulu has challenged Nawakwi to tell Zambians how she managed to enrich herself by putting up multi-million kwacha mansions in Chirundu and Mimosa in Lusaka and set up Legana Sausages Limited.
Addressing the Press at the UPND secretariat this morning, Ms Zulu accused Ms Nawakwi of harbouring a grudge against Mr Hichilema that she said dates back to the time the two were school mates at the University of Zambia (UNZA).
She also challenged Nawakwi to furnish Zambians with the information on her huge state security detail that she is usually seen with since she waged a war against Mr Hichilema a few months ago.
Asked on the measures that the women’s Wing intended to take if Nawakwi remains adamant and refuse to apologise by end of ultimatum tomorrow, Ms Zulu observed that actualizing their demands on her would depend on how the issues unfold.
Ms Zulu wondered why Ms Nawakwi has settled for HH as his preferred political target at the expense of providing checks and balances to the PF-led Government which she said had failed to deliver to people’s expectations.
“If truly Ms Nawakwi is a true opposition leader, why has she not been talking about the numerous failures by the PF such as the poor road network, absence of medicines in hospitals and the high cost of living,” she wondered.
Ms Zulu also accused Nawakwi of being an affront to the women folk in politics, saying the opposition leader didn’t inspire confidence in women leadership.
The UPND women have also threatened to ensure that they recruit all FDD members to the UPND.
Nawakwi recently accused President Hichilema of not being qualified to lead the country due to his alleged role in privatisation during the MMD era, a process the UPND women say was spearheaded by the FDD leader when she was Finance Minister.
