ZAMBIANS must unite and stand together to kick the Patriotic Front out of power because the fight against this oppressive and failed government is not a UPND fight alone.
The UPND Lusaka province, Chairperson Obvious Mwaliteta was speaking to hundreds of mourners at the memorial park during the burial of Lawrence Banda on Friday, 11 October 2019 which was attended by party president Hakainde Hichilema among other distinguished mourners.
And Mwaliteta has requested PF Deputy Secretary General, Mumbi Phiri to shut up instead of misleading the correct thinking of the Zambian people on the death of Lawrence Banda and the hash economic life in general.
“I want to make it abundantly clear that the fight to kick PF out *‘by the ballot,’* is not for the UPND alone but for all people of Zambia. We have to unite and stand together to kick PF out. We are living in strange times under PF such that government has grown ‘evil’ teeth which have eaten a young man whom we have put to rest in this fresh grave,” Mwaliteta said.
He also charged that the time was right for Zambians to vote into office a new, wise, visionary and sober leadership of the UPND to turn around the economy which is in ICU under PF.
Mwaliteta could not comprehend how a government which is killing its people which high mealie meal prices, load shading, lack of drugs in hospitals and high fuel prices would resort to physically murdering its citizens as a show of political power.
“How may time will Zambians die under the PF government? Already PF is killing us with high prices of mealie meal, fuel and load shading, should it resort to physical murder the way our late young man Lawrence Banda was killed?
This young man (pointing to a fresh grave) didn’t deserve to die by a bullet in the manner he did. But when you have a desperate and insecure people in government, they do very strange things, such as perpetual arrest and killing of political opponents,” charged Mwaliteta.
And the former Deputy Minister of Home Affairs has asked Inspector General of Police, Kakoma Kanganja to resign for failing to discharge his duties diligently ever since his appointment as IG.
Mwaliteta observed that Kanganja’s catalogue of failures was unbelievably strange and bigger than any of his predecessors. The Police IG behaves his best only as ‘PF carder’ number one.
“It’s unthinkable that as we were attending the funeral service of Lawrence Banda, PF cadres ransacked the funeral house and yet Police were deployed in Kanyama in hundreds.
It’s unbelievable that PF cadres went to the funeral house cashed mourners, broke two doors, shattered several window panes, looted the food, burnt the sofa and tent which were outside before tuning the place upside-down in total desolation.
Kanganja must resign immediately for failing in his duties. He has failed to bring to book the killer of Lawrence Banda, and I have two of my youths here (at the graveyard), living with bullets in their bodies and perpetrators have not been arrested. The record of IG’s failures is there for all to see,” said Mwaliteta.
As for Madam Phiri, Mwaliteta asked her to ‘shut up instead of messing up the correct thinking of Zambians,’ especially regarding the death of the UPND youth who was shot in Kaoma by a known PF cadre.
“Mumbi Phiri can conceal the truth surrounding the death of Lawrence Banda, but in 2021, she will disclose all that she knows about the brutal killing of a young and promising life. Time will come for PF to account for all the theft, corruption and misdeeds,” Mwaliteta said.
The slayed, 24-year-old Lawrence Banda fondly called ‘Ghaddafi’ is survived by a wife and two beautiful children. Even if the killer is a well-known PF cadre, Zambia Police is reluctant to record a statement from Madam Phiri who claims to have been present at the time of the shooting.
