The UNITED PARTY FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT Says President Edgar Lungu in his address to Parliament yesterday failed to speak strongly on matters of corruption which take away public resources that are supposed to provide for public services.
Kasempa UPND Member of Parliament Brenda Tambatamba says the President failed to place emphasis and condemn the level of unpatriotism that is related to corruption with a couple of his ministers already brought before investigative agencies for questioning and investigations on matters of corruption, indicative of something that needs address.
Addressing the media this morning at the UPND national secretariat, Ms Tambatamba said the country had noticed a growing trend of grand corruption through inflated tender prices, misappropriation and misapplication of public resources as well as theft and yet the President in his speech failed to place emphasis on this matter that is slowly eroding the country’s moral and economic fibre.
“He never spent time to condemn in the same way he did, rightly so on people that were gassing and destroying property. We see that the President is being unpatriotic in not paying attention to corruption and is seen to be protecting those who are seen to be suspects. We know that recently the President protected one of his Ministers from stepping down while investigations were going on around corruption issues. So where is the patriotism in the PF. Where is the integrity in the PF and what progress is he going to account for. The ruling clique is being protected here against corruption and there is no real tracking and ensuring that these national values and principles are being inculcated in the arms of government”, she revealed.
Ms Tambatamba who is also Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee deputy Chairperson further wondered what values, morals and principles the PF and President Edgar Lungu were showing when they had the audacity of associating themselves with a suspected murderer.
