UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) North Western province information and publicity secretary Adam Sapezo says the party in the province is aware that a team of ruling Patriotic Front officials are in the province to bribe opposition councillors to resign.
In an interview in Lusaka, Mr Sapezo disclosed that the team was being led by former UPND vice president Richard Kapita, musician now turned surrogate Spuki Mulemwa among others who were busy calling councillors to meet them at named lodges in the province.
Mr Sapezo explained that the province was lagging behind in terms of development and that the money being given to councillors could go a long way if the PF had identified projects that would benefit the people such as roads, schools and health facilities.
‘’Richard Kapita is provincial minister for Western province and he is supposed to be working, look at the roads in his area, they are in a dilapidated state and yet money to bribe councillors they have,’’ he said.
He added that Mwinilunga was rich in gold and that keeping it underdeveloped was a scheme by the PF to continue looting the mineral minus it being accounted for by state institutions.
Mr Sapezo called for accountability in the way minerals were being extracted and sold as such was the only way locals could be empowered by nationals resources.
‘’We also wonder where the money PF is using to bribe councillors is coming from, we wouldn’t be surprised if the same money received through covid- 19 donations is being channelled to campaigns,’’ he said.
Mr Sapezo warned the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to avoid being used to campaign for the PF as it had a duty to protect resources meant for serious emergencies unlike being used for political mileage.
He also warned councillors in North-western province not to disappoint the people that voted for them over simple pieces of silver and that dignity was of more value that deceit.
He further made it clear that the party would first deal with those that have caused misery to the Zambian people by resigning unnecessarily by hounding them out of public institutions immediately UPND forms government.
