The levels of hunger in the Eastern province of Zambia where President Edgar Lungu comes from would have been a thing of the past had tribalism been the basis on which development is attained”, says UPND Provincial youth chairman Raison Nyirenda.
Mr Nyirenda has since called for a paradigm shift in the manner the country’s politics is being practiced from mediocrity to issue based as people are waiting for solutions to the challenges affecting the entire country.
“The people of Eastern province are now tired of tribalism. If tribalism could be consumed, then the people where Lungu comes from wouldn’t be dying of hunger. No one can consume tribe because if we could, there would be no suffering in Vubwi. But here, where Mr Lungu comes from, there is untold misery and hunger,” he said.
He says the high poverty levels, the absence of health facilities as well as the high unemployment levels in the country has made the people of Eastern province yearn for a change of leadership.
“If you go into most schools in Eastern province, you will be shocked to learn that two teachers are handling more than 300 pupils. Most of the youths are out of employment. Most of the roads are in a dilapidated state and fertilizer is selling at K500 for a 50kg. That’s why the people have made it clear that they will be voting out PF come 2021,” he stated.
