Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini this afternoon overruled the decision of the Parliamentary committee on privileges that recommended for a formal warning on Mazabuka Central member of parliament Gary Nkombo.
Speaker Matibini who delivered the ruling against Mr. Nkombo on the floor of the House today accused the committee which recommended for a warning of having errored and having failed to follow the precedent set out in the Nickson Chilangwa case in which he was suspended for seven days for contempt of the Speaker.
He in his usual style of dictatorial leadership, Matibini instead of respecting the decision of his own committee opted to lecture the house using unnecessary legal jargons that had nothing to do with the matter at hand.
After a long unwinding lecture to the house and the committee using legal jargons thus turning the House into a courtroom in which he was both the Judge and the Jury, Matibini then slapped the calm looking Mazabuka Central lawmaker with a ten days suspension excluding weekends with effect from today November 12th,2019 to 26th November,2019.
When the motion to suspend Hon Nkombo was put to the House, a division was called after the opposition objected to the suspension.
The PF carried the day via a 77- 44 vote with Speaker Matibini asking Mr.Nkombo to walk through the door of shame which he did with a huge smile and waving members of the House.
Mr. Nkombo’s suspension follows a letter of complaint to the Speaker from Mporokoso PF MP Brian Mundubile on an allegation of contempt of the Speaker.

Hon Gary Nkombo is a gallant fighter and should not be discouraged by this development.
