United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema has called on the country’s youths not to relent in their quest for a better future.
Speaking to thousands of UPND youths who gathered at the party secretariat shortly after participating in today’s Youth Day celebrations, Mr Hichilema told the youths that their future was assured under the UPND leadership.
President Hichilema also sympathized with the plight of Zambian youths saying joblessness would soon be a thing of the past once the UPND takes office.
“Zambian youths, I know the country has been destroyed. I know you are not going to school. I know you have no jobs. But I want you to know that we share your pain. I want you to know that we are close to our destination. We can see the banks of river Jordan, we have walked a long way and we can see Canaan. You must not give up because hope and help is on the way,” he said.
Mr Hichilema said there is no denying the PF has ransacked the country and caused untold misery among its citizens.
“At first we used to argue that the PF has failed the country. But now as a country, we all agree the PF has failed.
Mr. Hichilema said the PF has failed to deliver on all the three (3) fundamentals under which the party campaigned and was ushered into office for.
They promised to lower taxes, but they have failed; they promised to more jobs for the youths, and they have not done that; they also promised to put more money in your pockets but they have failed to do so,” he said.
He said that the UPND was the only party with a solution to the numerous problems currently facing the nation.
Mr Hichilema further stated that the dream for a better Zambia would only be realized when the UPND leadership assumes office.
“We all agree that there is only one party that can take the country forward. And that party is the UPND. But in order to realize our dream, we have a duty to campaign, get National Registration Cards (NRCs) and acquire Voters’ Cards so that we can win and win big,” he told the cheering youths.
He said once in office, he would ensure that law and order returns to the land.
“When we cross the River Jordan and I can see the banks, when we cross the bridge, which is very soon, we will make life easy for you by creating jobs for you. Immediately we are sworn in, there will be law and order that afternoon. That afternoon the Kwacha will appreciate. That afternoon, every citizen will be able to go to the bus station or market in any political party attire without anyone beating them. That is our promise to the Zambian people. Our role will be to bring law and order because there is a lot of lawlessness,” said Mr Hichilema.
The UPND is this year participating in all national events four (4) years after the party boycotted following the stripping naked of a female party member by PF thugs in the presence of Vice President Inonge Wina during the commemoration of the 2015 Women’s Day.
Last Saturday, the UPND women outshone the PF at the show grounds in the presence of President Lungu during the commemoration of women day prompting the PF to order all vendors, marketers and call boys around Lusaka to attend today’s function or lose their trading spaces.
The ruling party also took advantage of the economic hardships it has created by going into all higher learning institutions in Lusaka were they paid and dressed students for them to add up numbers.
