UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema this morning entered Mandevu constituency to a thunderous welcome as residents shouted agwila pasaka yaunga.
President Hichilema who was in the area to mourn the death of a party member Raphael Mugoncha populary known as Boboza, was mobbed by the young and old who persistently shouted njala njala.
The Mandevu residents mainly women and marketeers told the UPND leader that life had become unbearable with most of them going for a day without food as they cannot manage the high cost of Mealie-Meal currently selling at between K 195 – K 220.
“Ba President tilila kwaimwe. Ababantu bakangiwa. Koswe ajumpila musaka yaunga. Titandizeni kumuchosa otherwise tizafa. Namalasha nayo adula, tichetekela tupamela”, the residents shouted as President Hichilema made his way to the funeral house.
“2021 is yours ba President. Tavutika paoneka.Ise mayufi tilibe nchito, the cost of living has skyrocketed beyond our reach. The government doesn’t seem concerned. Bakudya beka, tizatamangila kuti please tapapata. Titandizeni”,they said while shouting we want change.
President Hichilema who made a brief stop over at Mandevu market assured the residents and marketeers that help was on its way and should therefore not lose hope as the UPND sympathised with them.
He appealed to the PF to immediately put up measures to curb the escalating cost of Mealie-Meal and other foods instead of accusing of being behind the rise in commodity prices.
And speaking at the funeral house, the UPND leader urged the bereaved family and the larger UPND family to ensure that the dream of the late young politician is achieved by working hard to win the 2021 election.
He said Raphael Mugoncha had a vision for a better Zambia for all regardless of status in society hence the need for everyone work at realising that dream.
“We are here to mourn with you on the passing on of our young man. He might be gone but his dream and that of many others that have gone before him lives on through us that have remained. We cannot ask why as death remains God’s secret. We are here to strengthen each other, he added.
Raphael’s family through his uncle thanked the UPND President and the greater UPND family for the help rendered during his illness and eventually death and pledged to adopt his political choice as theirs.
Raphael who was part of the UPND campaign team in Chilubi died of severe cerebral malaria early this month.
