Arrest Petauke District Commissioner
_…the country has degenerated under Edgar Lungu must go!*_
The United Party for National Development-UPND-wishes to condemn in strongest terms the violent attack on PASME Radio Station by Petauke District Commissioner, Ms Velenesi Moyo.
We wish to categorically state that we are taken aback and greatly dismayed by the continued thuggery behaviour exhibited under the Edgar Lungu Administration on the media.
It is very disheartening to note that journalists and the media in general have continued to work under very difficult and extremely hostile environment under the PF regime.
The act by the DC amounts not only to criminal tresspass punishable by the laws of the land, but also
a violation of media freedoms as well as freedom of expression. Citizens who want to pass on their information to fellow citizens are not able to because of power hungry elements in the PF.
It is due to the lack of leadership skills by Mr Lungu that statutory bodies such as the Independent Broadcasting Authority and the Zambia Police Service are unable to protect media houses and citizens.
We are also aware that Mr Lungu is incapable of taking any meaningful advise on how the country should be governed.
If citizens do not remove Mr Lungu democratically, we are afraid he will run this country into oblivion. We are afraid that it is the radio today and tomorrow which will be needed by would by villagers and farmers in some remote or secluded areas of this country to receive information.
We therefore call for the immediate arrest of the DC, failure to which citizens shall effect a citizens arrest.
We wish to remind the PF that Zambians nationwide have already made up their minds and no matter how many media houses they close, it will not keep them in office.
