We will petition the nomination of Edgar Lungu and file for an injunction to prevent him from filing in his presidential nomination papers for disregarding the August 8, 2016 ConCourt order for 63 former and current ministers to pay back the salaries and allowances they illegally accrued when they remained in office after Parliament was dissolved, says UPND Lusaka Province Chairperson, Obvious Mwaliteta.
In a short interview today, Mwaliteta observes that President Lungu was expected to uphold the Constitution and that failure to do so led to ministers undermining and aggregating its provisions.
“We are demanding for the Republican President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu to resign. He should resign because he has abrogated the Constitution of Zambia. Presidency is there to protect the Constitution but here is a President who abrogated the Constitution by allowing ministers to stay in office when they were not supposed to. And, if he is not going to resign, we will petition his nominations next year,” he said.
He says it’s laughable that the head of State, who is a pronounced legal practitioner could suddenly u-turn and order his ministers to pay back in excess of K4.2 million contrary to his earlier guidance.
“This is a president who allowed ministers not to pay back allowances and salaries illegally accrued when they stayed in office and later u-turned and told them to pay back,” he said.

It’s very sad to see CBU workers going without pay in this PF induced economic hardships. What is more heart breaking is that the PF regime is busy flushing money throughout the Country bribing voters but deliberately ignoring to pay CBU staff their hard earned salaries. It’s very sad that PF is forcing people into destitution. What this PF regime must realize is that denying CBU workers their monthly salaries has multiplying effects on their families. Surely, Should all Zambians become PF cadres to earn cool cash?
We believe that PF is aware that a salary is a condition of service which all employers must honour without fail. Looking at the way the PF regime is bribing voters throughout the Country they cannot claim that they have no money to pay CBU employees. The International Labour Organization should take keen interest in how this PF Government is infringing on workers and pensioners rights.
The CBU staff conditions of service include getting a monthly salary on the agreed date of the month. PF must not take pride in sending people early to their graves. People are dying of depression because they are failing to provide for their families. People have died without enjoying the money they worked for.. Pensioners too have been victims of this ruthless PF regime.
Apart from mocking the same CBU employees with a meagre 8% increment, now the PF regime is defaulting on payments. It’s embarrassing for the Zambian people to be led by such uncaring and incompetent Government whose main pre occupation is to hold on to power. Zambians must liberate themselves by kicking out this crooked, selfish and corrupt PF regime.

Looking at what is happening on the KCM issue, it’s very clear that the PF regime did a very bad job. The issue was rushed there by overlooking the implications of the agreement binding the two parties together. ZCCM IH may have a very genuine grievance against Vedanta of protecting the interest of the Zambian people. But the manner it executed its grievance procedure will most likely be very harmful and costly to the Zambian people. Two wrongs cannot make a right. We therefore wish to advise the PF regime through ZCCM IH to swallow its pride and take a deep reflection on the matter before the Country is plunged into deep financial crisis.
PF should stop misleading Zambians that it has a good case on KCM. If that was the case why did the Court of Appeal stay the winding up process of the mine and referred the matter to the arbitrator in South Africa? We are aware that locally PF does not respect any law, but this madness should not be taken outside its boundaries. PF’s arrogance has led this Country into very deep financial crisis. PF will leave too many problems behind as they leave office next year.
The financial implications that will come as a result of disrespecting the terms on which the mine was sold will not be borne by PF, but ordinary people. If the investor was found wanting on the agreed terms and conditions first, we should also have been the first ones to lodge a complaint before the arbitrator against the investor. When we sold the mine we did so on terms and conditions that we agreed with the buyer. People must stop being irresponsible and careless when carrying out such sensitive duties, don t use emotions.
PF has very serious problems in monitoring the activities on the mines. It’s like when things were going wrong in KCM the whole Government machinery was sleeping. Only to wake up when it was too late and now they want to use draconian methods to cover up their inefficiency. The case of KCM is just one example of how rotten the PF monitoring system is. They say PUMBWE AFWILILE PALYAKWE.

As UPND youths, we wish to express utmost gratitude to our President, Hakainde Hichilema for the humane assurance that he would ensure that we are empowered with finances and skills, needed to create and sustain our jobs and become part of the successful entrepreneurs in the country.
This gives us hope that our lives will be in better hands because he is an entrepreneur and an economist with a record highly competitive in the changing world.
Yesterday’s historic youth empowerment social contract that President Hakainde Hichilema signed with the youths could not have come at a better time than this.
We are elated that President Hichilema has remained focused on his overriding desire to alleviate our suffering and end the untold misery that we are facing daily due to the PF’s reckless spending, uncontrolled debt contraction, plunder of national resources and awarding of contracts to foreigners.
We are so grateful that our status quo where our businesses have been run down and shut due to the high cost of doing business and load shedding will soon come to an end so that, we can once more, live meaningful and dignified lives.
We, the youths of this marvellous country continue to look up to you for wealth and job creation and entrepreneurship
following your economic prowess and know-how.
We are, thus, hopeful that your assurance yesterday will transcend our wildest expectations of becoming entrepreneurs who will not only contribute to the development of this country, but also be able to sustain our lives.
It is our view that as the majority in Zambia’s population, your incoming government will put more emphasis on how us, the neglected youths can be empowered with skills and technology for us to compete favourably in the changing business world.
Lastly we are happy that the majority of youths in this country, have taken interest in registering to vote so that they can be part of choosing a leadership that will have their plight at heart.

We sympathize with all civil servants and public workers for being given 8% increment under the prevailing harsh economic conditions, brought about by PF’s Ubomba Mwibala alya Mwibala. From the way PF has looted public resources, we knew that the PF regime has left nothing to give civil servants a decent increment. Any reasonable increment should sit above the inflation rate and add value to ones disposable income.. We fail to understand why this PF regime is failing to pay its employees a living wage but are ready to bribe voters with huge sums of money. Very soon this junk PF regime will default on payment of salaries.
It’s illogical and senseless to give employees a single digit increment of 8% against the back drop of double digit inflation rate coupled with a weak Kwacha. At the end of the day a worker does not see any significance of such an increment. We fail to understand why this junk PF is punishing Civil servants by giving them peanuts. Meanwhile this junk PF regime is busy giving handouts that are above the pension of an average civil servant. Surely, PF leaders must be ashamed of themselves for mocking Government employees with such a meaningless increment.
What this junk PF regime is forgetting is that already the take home pay has been eroded by inflation and the weak Kwacha. This has de motivate all Government employees. Further, this careless and irresponsible behavior by this junk PF regime will spread to the private sector. Who will copy these bad manners and deny their employees a meaningful salary increment even when they are making huge profits. Majority of workers under the junk PF live below the poverty datum line.
To our hard working civil servants and public workers, we know that PF has neglected you. But be assured that HH will restore your lost dignity; we value your contribution to National Development. The culture of stealing from your toil and sweat will come to an end immediately HH and his team takes over Government in 2021. HH treasures you as the most valuable asset and not mere tools of production. UPND will review your conditions of service including transfers that have separated you from your families.
